Adventures in the Wild : Overview

This exotic Sri Lanka wildlife tour start by stepping into the depths of the Sinharaja, Sri Lanka’s last surviving area of primary tropical rainforest for two nights then venturing into the jungles of both Udawalawe and Yala staying two nights each. Finally head out of the jungle and into one of Sri Lanka’s most alluring sea-side retreats Mirissa for a couple of relaxing days and witness a whale watching expedition.

Day 01

COLOMBO AIRPORT – NEGOMBO

On arrival at Colombo International Airport, you will be met by our representative and will be transferred to a hotel in Negombo – a fishing town just under 30-minute drive from the Airport.

Enjoy the comforts of your hotel and the surroundings to overcome the jetlag after a long flight.

(Option: Based on your arrival time we could avoid the Day 01 and commence the Day 02 program directly.)

Day 02

SINHARAJA RAINFOREST

After breakfast head down to South of Sri Lanka to conquer the jungle. Proceed to Sinharaja a national park and a biodiversity hotspot in Sri Lanka. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to a stunning array of endemic trees and wildlife, especially bird species.

Once you’ve arrived at your lodgings in Sinharaja, check-in and enjoy some down time. Explore your surroundings, go on a nature walk, or spend the rest of your evening at leisure.

Day 03

SINHARAJA JUNGLE TREK

Depart early morning for a jungle trek through the rainforest. As there are no drive-able roads through the park, Sinharaja is an exhilarating, hands-on experience.

 

Skilled guides and naturalists will lead you through the dense, glistening trails of ferns, tree frogs and native orchids while pointing out the rainforest’s treasures of over 800 species of endemic flora and fauna. Many of the exotic plants and animals in this exclusive ecosystem aren’t found anywhere else in the world! This is the way to experience the rainforests of the tropics.

 

Return to hotel and at leisure.

Day 04

UDAWALAWE ELEPHANT TRANSIT HOME

Breakfast at hotel, check-out, and drive to UDAWALAWE known for its herds of Asian Elephants.

On Arrival check-in to your hotel and relax.

Afternoon visit “ELEPHANT TRANSIT HOME” where abandoned, injured or orphaned elephants are taken in, treated and then released back into the wild.

Overnight stay at Grand Udawalawe Safari Resort.

Day 05

UDAWALAWE NATIONAL PARK

Early Morning visit the UDAWALAWE NATIONAL PARK.

 

Udawalawe National Park covers an area of 30,821 hectares. The park is home to an estimated 500 elephants, best spotted by the river or streams and reservoirs.

 

Back to Hotel and after a late breakfast checkout and drive to Yala Sri Lanka’s most gratifying wildlife reserve. On arrival check-in to your hotel in Yala and at leisure.

 

Overnight stay in Yala/Tissamaharama.

Day 06

YALA NATIONAL PARK

Plan a visit early morning and a late breakfast at the hotel OR Breakfast as usual and plan a visit to the National park in the evening.

This is the most celebrated wildlife park in Sri Lanka and is simply the best place in the world to spot leopards. With a leopard density of one leopard per square kilometer, this park is the ideal location in which to film and photograph these regal wildcats.

Apart from the leopards, there are a highest number of elephants living in the park, spotted deer, sambar, wild board, wild buffaloes, Sloth bear, jackal and mongoose can also be seen.

Day 07

MIRISSA – BEACH TIME

After enjoying an early breakfast, with loads of pictures of Sri Lanka’s Jungle adventures/wildlife, today you will head out of the jungle and into one of Sri Lanka’s most alluring sea-side retreats Mirissa.

 

Arrive at your hotel and spend some time at leisure on the beach.

 

The area has it all, beautiful beaches, surf waves, whale watching, and great bars and restaurants. (Surf from October to March for ideal surfing conditions.)

Day 08

WHALE AND DOLPHIN WATCHING

Early morning set off on your whale watching expedition. 

You need to be at the Mirissa Harbour by 6.30a.m to go whale watching (Season is from November to April).

As you set off on the boat cruise, you will come across pods of friendly Dolphins such as the Common dolphins, Bottlenose dolphins, Spinner dolphins, Risso’s dolphins and striped dolphins as they playfully somersault and dance on the ocean waves. In the deeper waters, you will spot the blue whales travelling in groups. As you venture further out are the sperm whales that travel in solitude.

Back to the hotel and enjoy the beach at leisure.

Day 09

GALLE DUTCH FORT

After eight days in the wild and relaxing at a most sort after coastal resort watching ocean mammals, drive to the city of Colombo for a change of pace.

 

On-route visit The Galle FORTRESS. This magnificent piece of architecture, a UNESCO World Heritage site was as initiated by the Portuguese in the 16th century, seeing some of its best days during Dutch rule in the 18th century, until the British took over in 1796.

 

On arrival in Colombo take your time to check-in to your hotel and spend some time at leisure. In the evening explore the wonders of Colombo.

Day 10

DEPARTURE SRI LANKA

After breakfast relax and enjoy the comforts of the hotel.

Your guide will meet you on time at the lobby to drive you to the Colombo International Airport for your departing flight home.

Take back with you 10 days of unforgettable memories and loads of pictures to remember your visit to Sri Lanka.
